Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of the legal importance of an EU Treaty, an EU Regulation and an EU Directive.



Development of the course

The methodology is  based on a participative and seminarian approach: students will be requested to submit presentation during the whole course.



Learning outcomes

1. Knowledge and Understanding: how the E.U institutions work (in practice) and take decision.

2. Applying knowledge and understanding: most of the learning is  based on EU real documents.


3. Judgement, focus and communication skills: every students will make a presentation and a report.

Introduction on the EU Legal system: legislation and institutional functioning
The Strategies policies of the EU: economy, institutional and administrative system, enlargement
The legislative power
The financial power
The political Supervisory power
The management of the "crisis" times at the EU level
Citizens’ rights
The European Administration
The perspectives of the European Union.



Development of the examination

1. Exam.
The course will be held in an intensive module and the examination will be in writing {prova scritta) immediately following  the course.

2. Assessment criteria: based on participation to the debate, the quality of the presentation and an evaluation of the in writing examination.

3. Grading scale
Positive grades: from 18 to 30. Cum laude can be bestowed to outstanding performance

4. Grading method
Participation to the debate: 10/20%,
Quality of the presentation 30/40 %
Evaluation of the in writing examination: 50%

 

 



Recommended reading

All the texts will be distributed during the course-lessons and will be composed by original documents, resolutions, reports with in addition some essays: the course will be based on concrete real documents.
